TRIGGER LEADS & HOW TO STOP THEM

practical.tips.tuesday.blog.banner

Did you know that every time a Lender pulls your credit report, the credit bureau sells your information as a “trigger lead”?  And YES, selling your information is legal but NO, you do not have to put up with this!

If you do not take measures up front to prevent the sale of your data, you will be barraged with calls and text messages from Lenders who have purchased “trigger leads”.

To prevent this nuisance from occurring in the first place, take the following steps prior to contacting a Lender and having your credit pulled:

  • Opt out of the sale of your data by going to optoutprescreen.com which is the official Consumer Credit Reporting site to process your request to Opt-Out of firm offers of credit or insurance or Opt-In.
  • Add your phone numbers to the “Do Not Call List” at donotcall.gov. This stops unwanted sales calls from ANY industry.
  • Not interested in receiving unsolicited mail either, remove your data from mailing lists at https://dmachoice.thedma.org/register.php

If you are receiving unsolicited calls, you have the choice of whether to ignore or respond to them.  You are certainly not required to call someone back or answer their text.

We value your right to privacy and I hope that you have found these tips to be useful!
